Pilates

altPilates offers a unique exercise regime of tuning your body and mind into exercising your trunk to avoid and prevent back pain.

By stretching and strengthening, you can ease the stresses and strains of normal life activities. Thus, by becoming aware of your posture and avoiding stressful positions, you will equip yourself with the ability to strengthen and tone your core strength. Ultimately, with our expert guidance, you can diminish those aches and pains to ensure you take control.

Join now for a personalised Pilates Class. It can be in a small class with people of like abilities, or for a one to one assessment to gauge your ability and requirements. Our classes are no larger than ten people so expert guidance is always to hand, but we also offer one-to-one tuition.

Our Pilates Classes have four levels - three of which are incorporated into all mixed classes (Remedial Classes have dedicated classes)

Remedial -This class is designed for those with ongoing or underlying musculo-skeletal disorders, or medical conditions, requiring specific attention.  These classes will be taken by a Physio to ensure safe progression until fit or prepared enough to progress to Beginners Plus level.

Beginners - This class will be held over a 6 week structured period during which time the participant will learn the basics: Neutral spine (correct posture), activation of the transverse abdominal exercise (deep muscle control), and breathing techniques.  The class will teach how to make the strengthening exercises improve function, balance and activities of daily living. All beginners require a one-to-one assessment before undertaking Pilates Classes to ensure that any known health problems or prescribed medication can be discussed.

Intermediate - At this level the progression of the exercise will depend on your fitness level on that day. But the challenging will continue with progression of the level of the difficulty of the exercise or time performed, with or without the use of weights, .

Advanced - For those requiring high levels of fitness and who enjoy a challenge!

Susan holds Remedial and Clinical Classes utilising her Physiotherapy training, whilst Joy, Louise and Faye teach on our Mixed classes.
